| Arts, Beats, and Eats preview #ArtsBeatsEats |
[05 Sep 2011|12:11am] |
|
Below originally posted in different format as Preview of Arts, Beats, and Eats on Crazy Eddie's Motie News.
Woodward Dream Cruise may herald the coming of the end of summer, but it isn't the actual event that is the end of summer. That distinction belongs to Arts, Beats, and Eats. Here's Friday's coverage from WXYZ-TV's YouTube Channel and Royal Oak Patch.
2011 Arts, Beats & Eats Guide What to see, hear and eat, as well as everything you need to know to enjoy the fest. By Judy Davids Oakland County’s biggest summer festival celebrating art, music, and food happens this weekend in downtown Royal Oak and Patch has you covered. Here's what you need to know to enjoy the popular event. Arts, Beats & Eats: Guide to the ArtsWhat to see at the Juried Fine Arts Show, one of the major parts of the festival. I don't know if I miss the Ann Arbor Art Fairs enough to look at the art show. Good thing there's more going on than just art.
Arts, Beats & Eats: What to Hear
Check out this lineup.Vince Gill, Brett Michaels, Panic at the Disco and George Clinton & Parliament Funkadelic are the main headliners on the Michigan Lottery National Recording Artists Stage this year, but there another 250 acts performing on 10 other stages. If my wife and I had more energy, there were places to sit (I think we would have to stand), and the weather were a little cooler, we'd be very tempted to go. We might not miss the music entirely. Last year, we could hear the bands playing from our house, more than a mile away.
Oh, yes, the Eats: Arts, Beats & Eats: Where to DineThere'll be plenty of choices from nearly 70 food vendors at the festival. Now, where to go first? This all looks very tempting. However, not only could I hear the music last year, but the event was so well attended that it exceeded capacity several times and entry was closed. Talk about being too successful for its own good! Just the same, I promise to keep you all updated as the news comes in.

| "Williamston ends season with sure-fire hit!" says Encore Michigan |
[18 Jul 2011|02:36pm] |
And The Creek Don't Rise got a rave review this weekend from Encore Michigan! The review begins like this:
"On paper, Williamston Theatre's current production of And The Creek Don't Rise sounds like a delightful summertime comedy. For starters, it's the world premiere of a script by local playwright Joseph Zettelmaier, whose previous efforts earned him local and national accolades. Then there's the cast – each of whom is among the best Michigan's industry has to offer. Then to top it off, the behind-the-scenes folks are fine artisans excellent at their crafts. So with a pedigree this good, how could it miss, I asked myself on the drive to Williamston. By 9:45 p.m. or so on opening night I had my answer – and based on the comments I overheard while standing in the theater's lobby after the performance, I suspect most people agreed with me: And The Creek Don't Rise is a sure-fire, don't-miss hit" Some notable quotes are:
"Zettelmaier's crisp dialogue especially sparkles – enhanced by the superb delivery by the show's three actors...Lepard is a master...Peckham earns plenty of laughs...and her intense focus never wavers...Mahard is thoroughly delightful"
You can read the rest of the review HERE! You can order tickets by calling 517-655-7469! Visit the Williamston Theatre website!

| Oedipus at the Williamston Theatre |
[24 Jan 2011|01:57pm] |
Here's a fun video: Executive Director John Lepard recorded some clips from Saturday's Tech Rehearsal of OEDIPUS at the Williamston Theatre, and we thought we'd post them! Nothing fancy, just a fun rough edit of some moments. :)
OEDIPUS By Sophocles Adapted by Tony Caselli and Annie Martin January 27 - February 20, 2011 Directed by Tony Caselli
The classic Greek tragedy about providence and destiny. Oedipus journeys through life, attempting to outrun a foretold prophesy only to land right in the hands of fate. Five stellar performers bring the story to life as the intimate Williamston Theatre space is theatrically expanded to hold this epic and stunning tale of the ages. Featuring Sandra Birch, Barton Bund, John Michael Manfredi, Brandon Piper and Jamie Weeder. Many thanks to Verizon, our partner in the Williamston Theatre School Day Matinee Program. Their support is allowing dozens of local area high school students to see Oedipus for free.

| Looking for a Dining/Camping Facility |
[18 Feb 2010|04:53pm] |
Grand Valley Renaissance Festival (a student group at GVSU) is seeking a location for it's annual feast and fencing tournament. In past years we rented the Long Lake Outdoor Center (near Gun Lake), but it's no longer in business, and we're having trouble finding a facility that meets our needs and fits within our limited budget.
We're looking for a facility that's within an hour's drive of Grand Rapids, 2 hours at most, and that's available in early-mid April. Rustic style and a wooded/natural location are preferred, but not necessary.
At bare minimum, we need a lodge or similar facility that seats 80-100 people for dinner and has a commercial-style kitchen (2-4 large ovens, a 6-8 burner stovetop, lots of refrigerator and freezer space, and 2+ sinks). Think of a dining hall at a summer camp. Ideally, we'd also like a site that allows alcohol and has overnight accommodations (cabins, yurts, etc.), but we're flexible.
What we don't need is catering/food service, setup/teardown, or any other extras like that. We like to do our own cooking, and we're accustomed to setting everything up and cleaning up after ourselves. It also usually means a smaller fee, which is a big help for us.
Does anyone know of a place that meets our needs, or at least most of them? Any recommendations or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Rolls of Fujichrome Astia 100F 100iso 35mm film. Rolls of Fujichrome T64 iso 35mm RTP(tungsten) film. I hope there is such a place in Michigan.
